Solicitors face extreme pressures in the course of their work, which in turn can place strain on their family and social life. However strong the relationship with business partners, the solicitor under pressure does not always feel able to turn to immediate colleagues for help. This may be because of a number of complicated factors, including:
- partnership culture
- conflict of interest
- not wanting to burden already pressured colleagues
- the problem may be outside the experience of colleague
The Society exists to promote and protect the interests of its members, to promote fair practice and prevent abuses in the profession. To this end, the Society is able to offer a tailored set of confidential responses to member distress. It provides referral to professional mentors, to specialists in professional ethics issues, to mediators, to professional counsellors, to providers of financial support, or to just a shoulder to cry on.
