Kent Law Society Awards

2017 KENT LAW SOCIETY AWARDS - THE WINNERS !
2022 KENT LAW SOCIETY AWARDS

Barrister turned writer and broadcaster Rob Rinder MBE led the celebrations at Kent Law Society's sparkling Awards Dinner held on May 13th at the Maidstone Mercure Hotel and jointly hosted by new KLS president Nick Fairweather and immediate past-president Alexandra Gordon. As part of the event, Honorary Secretary Deborah Hatton and Rob Rinder took to the stage for a Fireside Chat and held the audience spellbound as they talked about his career path, broadcasting work, and recent visits to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
The event was attended by over 320 members and guests who came together for the first time since 2019 to celebrate the success of the award winners, meet old friends and colleagues, and enjoy an evening of entertainment, great food, and dancing. The dinner was sponsored by Burgess Hodgson Chartered Accountants, Michael Page Legal Recruitment and Partners Wealth Management; the welcome drinks reception was sponsored by Temple Legal Protection. Special guests included Kent Deputy Lieutenant Her Honour Adele Williams, His Honour Andrew Patience, Designated Family Judge for Kent Her Honour Judge Sarah Davies and Professor Lydia Hayes, head of Kent Law School. The Presidents of the Surrey, Sussex and Devon and Somerset Law Societies also attended.
This year there were six awards categories closely fought. The first award - Contribution to the Community Award - Firm, sponsored by Burgess Hodgson Chartered Accountants, went to Thomson Snell and Passmore. In the Contribution to the Community Award - Individual category sponsored by Partners Wealth Management, Mary Rimmer of Brachers was presented with the trophy. The winner of the hugely respected Kent Law Society Junior Lawyer Award, sponsored by Howdens Insurance Brokers, was revealed as Pavandeep Dhillon who works for Manak. The Outstanding Contribution to the Law in Kent - Non-Contentious, sponsored by Search Acumen, was won by Marsha Marriner of Whitehead Monckton while Mary-Joyce Insaidoo of Arthurs, took the title for Outstanding Contribution to the Law in Kent - Contentious, which was sponsored by Hickmans Legal Costings Services.
A special Lifetime Achievement Award was announced by immediate Past-President Alexandra Gordon who said that its recipient, Harvey Barrett of Furley Page, was a fierce advocate for professional development who had taught countless people. She said: "Harvey always ensured that not only did people leave his office knowing the answer to their query but also that they understood why." All of the awards winners are pictured (above) with host Rob Rinder MBE.
During the evening, a total of £1,429.31 was raised in donations which will be split equally between the Presidents' charities, Catching Lives and Prostate Cancer UK, and all guests were presented with a special goodie bag filled with products made by local Kent producers.
